In a vote of thanks for the kind digital messages she scored for her milestone, the Queen of England has used an iPad to send a tweet from the Monarchy’s official twitter account, @RoyalFamily.
Elizabeth R is the Queen’s official signature, which stands for Elizabeth Regina, the Latin designation for Queen. It is not her surname, which is Windsor.
Her Majesty has experimented before with online mass telecommunication—and was a groundbreaker. The British monarch sent one of the first emails in 1976 when the RPANET, a predecessor of the Internet was installed at the Royal Signals and Radar Establishment in Malvern, England.
Her Majesty was given the username ‘HME2’ according to wired.com, an abbreviation of her official royal title.
