Could a Packed To The Rafter’s reunion happen on Wanted?

The show’s creator and star, Rebecca Gibney, isn’t ruling it out.

She’s proven that barefaced is beautiful on the recent cover of WHO’s Most Beautiful People issue and now, Rebecca Gibney has raised our hopes that a Packed To The Rafters reunion could happen on the latest series of Wanted.

This year actually marks a decade since the Rafter family first appeared on our screens.

“10 years has gone so quick,” the 53-year-old actress says.

“We have to have a reunion. No, I won’t put that out there!”

But, even if Rebecca has ruled out a Rafter’s reboot, would she consider creating roles for her former TV family on the third season of crime drama Wanted

“Maybe! We’re writing it at the moment because we start shooting in May, we’ve already got quite a few interesting characters coming along.”

Surely now that her on-screen daughter Jessica Marais is free – both Jessica’s TV series The Wrong Girl and Love Child were cancelled at the end of last year – Rebecca could always call upon her for a role!

“I don’t think it will be long before Jess is doing something,” Rebecca says.

“I think she’s going to be fine. Although, funny you should mention that, there is actually a very good role in the show that she could potentially do.”

That’s enough for us – Jess, call your (former TV) mother!

All jokes aside, Rebecca, who resides in New Zealand with her husband Richard and son Zac, reveals that she would love to work with Erik Thomson again – Erik played her hubby Dave on Packed To The Rafters.

“Erik and I are always Facetiming each other and saying ‘When are we going to work together again?’ It’s hard because Dave and Julie were so beloved that it’s hard,” the 54-year-old says.

“How are we going to work together again with it not being Dave and Julie?’”

The classic Aussie series finished up in 2013, but despite the years passing by, Rebecca says that the cast is still close and she tries to catch up with them when she can.

“I saw Erik not so long ago in Auckland when he was over there doing 800 Words. I saw Angus [McLaren] not so long ago as well,” she says.

“It’s hard to catch up with the others because Hugh’s mostly in LA. Although we’re often on Instagram together and he’s like, ‘Come to LA!’ And I’m like ‘I can’t!’ I’m always chatting to all of them, which is great. Jess McNamee always texts which is great, Zoe Ventura [and] George Houvardas, always texts all the time. We start up a group text which turns really naughty really quickly but it feels like you’re still in touch which is great.”

Rebecca admits that it’s lovely to see all of her “kids” doing so well in their lives and careers after Rafter’s.

“They’re all doing incredible things. That’s why it’s hard to say yes, wouldn’t it be great to have a reunion because they’ve all moved on,” Rebecca says.
