The father of Olympic gold medalist Catherine Skinner had little doubt his daughter would succeed in Rio.
“We knew she was a chance if she got in there,” Ken Skinner tells WHO.
Victorian shooter Catherine, 26, won gold on Sunday in the final of the women’s trap, hitting 12 of 15 targets, one more than New Zealand’s Natalie Rooney.
“I was stunned,” says Ken, a farmer who watched the final on TV at home in Mansfield, Victoria. “It took me a little while to get over it, I couldn’t get up.”
It was Catherine’s first senior international title, and her Olympic debut.
“We knew she was capable of it,” says Ken, whose advice to his daughter was, “Go and shoot ’em and stop worrying about it.”
