“It was the only choice,” she tells WHO of the now infamous decision to hire child -recovery agents to snatch back her kids, Lahela, 6, and Noah, 4, from the custody of their father, Ali Elamine, in Beirut in April.

That choice led to her arrest for kidnapping, along with the agents and a documenting 60 Minutes crew—and saw the children returned to their father.

Since her release and return to Brisbane on April 23, Faulkner, 29, has had no contact with her children.

“Absolutely nothing, zero,” says Faulkner, who is one of WHO’s Most Intriguing People of 2016.

“The kids had their birthdays in November, October. I sent messages and I didn’t even get a message back. I arranged for the Australian embassy to check on their welfare. [Elamine] used the F word and slammed the door in their face.”

“I have days when I’m not coping,” says the former flight attendant. “ I just take each day as it comes and try to stay busy.”

And positive. “I am not laying down and dying, that’s for sure,” she says. “ I never will stop until they come home.”
