Sam Armytage has detailed her lucky escape from deadly bush fires currently blazing throughout New South Wales.

Driving alongside partner Richard Lavender after spending time on the South Coast during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, the Sunrise presenter uploaded videos to her Instagram Stories of the scorched surrounds in Bemboka from the passenger seat of the car. The bushfire warning had been upgraded to emergency level due to a fast-moving fire burning north of the small town on New Year’s Eve.
“Day turned to night … The sky was on fire,” she captioned the terrigying footage.
Revealing that thankfully, she and Richard, as well as their dogs, had escaped the blazes, the Seven star went on to give thanks to the “brave souls” battling the unprecedented bush fires across Australia.
“A belated HNY to you all. We’ve made it out of the south coast fire zone & I’m feeling very excited for a shower, some electricity & telecommunications,” Armytage wrote.
“More seriously, I’m feeling very thankful for my lot in life & very sad for those who’ve just lost lives, livestock & livelihoods.”
The TV star admitted seeing the extent of the fires firsthand had made her reassess her life, revealing she would be using 2020 to “simplify my life,” with “more love for my loved ones, more kindness, more patience, more healthy living.”
She continued: “Wishing for more rain for our farmers, better management of our environment & good karma for all those brave souls (paid & unpaid) out there fighting these horrendous fires.
“To you & yours, from me & mine, be safe. Be happy & love lots in 2020.”
Yesterday, terrifying footage of firefighters battling catastrophic flames in the NSW town of Nowra went viral.
The video, posted to the Fire And Rescue NSW Facebook page shows the crew from Station 509 Wyoming driving through a bushfire when their truck becomes surrounded by intense flames.
“The crew from Fire and Rescue NSW Station 509 Wyoming recorded this video showing the moment their truck was overrun by the bushfire burning South of Nowra at 3pm today. The crew was forced to shelter in their truck as the fire front passed through. The crew are okay,” read the post.
