My Kitchen Rules’ Sonya Mefaddi has revealed what led to her and fellow contestant Hadil Faiza being kicked out of the cooking competition.
Last week’s blow-up between the two friends and Jess Alvial and Emma Byron led to Sonya and Hadil being excused from the table, and ultimately removed from the show entirely.
Now, Sonya has taken to Instagram where she has released a lengthy statement to give her followers a “glimpse into why I reacted on the table the way I did”.
The MKR cook revealed that she was bullied for her ‘race and weight’, and taking part in the cooking competition brought back “all those cruel, hurtful and extremely upsetting words online”.
She continued, “During my time filming I was called a dumb c*** and an ugly fat b**** those words really struck a chord with me and really hurt which clearly showed. It’s been hard to apologise for that reason. Did I handle that moment the best? No.”
Admitting that the words she said “were out of line and don’t reflect my values of who I’ve grown up to be as a person” and said she is “truly sorry”.
Sonya continued by explaining that she has respect for her fellow contestants who experienced the “MKR bubble together”.
Jess previously told WHO that her and sister Emma had “kind of let it to” and hopes that everybody else can do the same.
“We definitely don’t want the girls going through what we had to before [with Roula and Rachael]. We know how horrible that was, so go easy on them.”
