It hasn’t even been a week since Taylor Swift released her latest album, Midnights (a certified bop) and yet, she’s already hinted at what her next album will be.
After releasing the film clip for the Midnights song, Bejeweled, yesterday – which is FILLED with Easter eggs – it’s clear to seasoned Swifties that Taylor will release Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) next.
WATCH: Trailer for Taylor Swift’s Midnights
For starters, during the film clip’s opening scene, an orchestral version of Enchanted can be heard. Hello? Enchanted is from Speak Now.
Secondly, during the Bejeweled music video, Taylor takes an elevator and there’s a prolonged shot at the elevator buttons which are all different colours. The colours seem to correspond with colours commonly associated with Taylor’s albums. Additionally, the order of the button colours correspond with Taylor’s album release order.
If you look at the image above, you’ll better understand what we’re saying. You’ll also see that the top button for level 13 is the colour purple (which is the same colour as the dress Taylor wore on the cover of the original Speak Now album) and this purple button comes after the button for level 12 which is coloured a dark, sparkly blue (a Midnights colour if there ever was one) – again hinting that Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) is next after Midnights.
Plus, when Taylor’s in the elevator she pushes the button for level 3 (the button corresponding to the OG Speak Now, which was her third album) and she gets off at this level; which could be seen as her revisiting Speak Now; which hints again that she’s working on the re-recording of Speak Now.
Taylor does visit level 5 after level 3, which symbolises her fifth album 1989; perhaps her hinting that after Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), 1989 (Taylor’s Version) will be released? But she then visits the 13th floor which seems to symbolise the upcoming Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) album. And while she’s on this floor, there is a huge clock behind her.
However, the hand on the clock is not pointing to midnight – odd as her current album is called, you know, Midnights. Instead, the clock hand is pointing to three; Speak Now was Taylor’s third album…
And during the final scene of Bejeweled’s film clip, an orchestral version of Long Live (a song from Speak Now, duh) can be heard while Taylor’s standing on a castle ledge that looks very similar to a set piece from Taylor’s Speak Now tour. Oh and a dragon appears, and Long Live literally has the lyrics, “I had the time of my life fighting dragons with you.”
The final cherry on top of our theory postulating that Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) is coming next, is that the Bejeweled music video was released on October 25, 2022 – the twelfth anniversary of the Speak Now album, which was released October 25, 2010.
Are we reaching? Potentially, but Taylor did say that the Bejeweled music video has “a psychotic amount” of Easter eggs in it while she appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon yesterday.
“We have a PDF file for the Easter eggs in this video because there are so many that we could not keep track,” Taylor said. Excuse us while we go cry and dance about the possibility that will be getting Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) and its vault tracks soon…
