Residents of the affluent beachside suburb of Brighton, Melbourne are up in arms over the fact that the 2020 season of The Block is set to film there – with many of the elderly neighbours said to be worried that the renovations show will tarnish their neighbourhood.
A new report from Daily Mail Australia states that Nine will begin filming the next season of the show in Brighton after MicJoy Pty Ltd, a company owned by the network, purchased a $14.96million plot of land in April.
A Further report from Domain states that a permit to move five homes onto the site in Melbourne will go for consideration before Bayside Council later this year.
One resident told Daily Mail Australia that she is concerned that The Block site will prevent her from getting any sunlight into the apartment she has resided in for 36 years.
“My unit is already very cold and it’ll block the sun,” she said.
“I’ll miss the sunsets too and they’ll be so much noise. Wherever they build, there will be noise, but what can you do about it?
“My friend has said she is going to list her house on the corner before it all starts,” continued the elderly lady.
Earlier this week, the current season of The Block was rocked by a cheating scandal after Mitch and Mark accused Jesse and Mel of copying the designs for their apartment.
Appearing on Triple M, the pair told former Block contestant and radio host Jess Eva they believed Jesse and Mel had used design ideas from another St Kilda apartment block in the designs for their own.
