You could cut the atmosphere with a knife on Monday night’s episode of The Block, following Scott Cam’s comments the previous night to gay contestants Mitch and Mark about their living room resembling a “party room”.

While Scott made an attempt to clear the air with the couple on Monday night’s show, shortly afterwards viewers watched as he stormed off set, declaring he was offended by Mitch and Mark’s assumptions about his comments and wanted an apology.

“Some things were said during the week about my character with regards to you guys and I don’t accept that,” Scott said.

“I was offended and I was expecting you to say sorry once I’ve explained it but you didn’t say sorry, you said thank you.”

Initially, Scott had visited the couple while they were working on their room in an attempt to make peace.

“I want to clear the air. I want to sort it all out and I want to make sure that you’re aware that when the judges say and when I say ‘people like you’ we are referring to cashed-up empty nesters like me and my wife, like you guys,” he explained.

“Nothing could be further from the truth if you thought we were referring to something about sexuality or gay couples.”

In response, Mark said that the host’s remarks implied that he had made a connection “about people partying and going out late nights” which had offended the pair.

“That wasn’t a connection to gay couples that was a connection to a party house…If you felt that I apologise,” Scott clarified.

However, tensions soon began to rise as Scott continued to explain his point of view.

“You keep saying it’s just a living area, you keep steering away from this and I wonder why… any entertainment going on in this house will be on this level,” he explained.

Sunday night’s show saw Mitch and Mark left furious after Scott compared their work with the other team, who has adjusted their plans “to get away from the noisy people in your place.”

“There’s no noisy people. People need to cope with the fact that there are multiple living spaces in all metropolitan homes and they need to actually step away from it because they have no idea,” Mark argued.

The confrontation sparked a huge debate on social media, with many viewers defending Mitch and Mark.
