A British high school has come under the spotlight today following reports in leading UK newspaper The Times that more than 40 students aged between 11 and 16 ‘do not identify as [the] gender presented at birth’. A further 36 are described as being gender-fluid.

The school in Brighton, described by Tatler magazine as ‘the coolest state secondary in town’, revealed the data in its equality information report. The figures are said to be the highest of any school in the country.

Transgender issues have become increasingly the focus of attention in the UK, with revelations there has been a 700 per cent increase in the number of children refered to NHS gender clinics over the past 5 years.
