Jennifer Lopez has revealed that she was told to lose weight when she first started out in the entertainment industry.
The former American Idol judge attended a For Your Consideration Emmy event for her new series Shades of Blue on Thursday, where the fan approached her. After she was told how much she has inspired her, Lopez told them a story about an issue she had when she was starting out in the industry.
“They kept telling me to lose weight, and I was a dancer, and I was athletic, and even my manager at the time who I no longer work with was telling me, ‘You need to lose weight. You need to be thinner,'” she recalled.
“I was like, ‘No I don’t. If I lose any more weight, it won’t be me.’ You know what I mean?”
Lopez continues, mentioning the fight that followed and weighing in on the impact she has had. “It was definitely a fight, and so it’s good to hear that it helped anybody in some way, because at the end of the day I was just trying to be myself without trying to fit into a mold of what everybody else should be.”
After airing in the US early this year, it is still to be confirmed when Shades Of Blue can be seen on Australian television screens.
