In news that will delight rom-com and book-tok lovers alike, Beth O’Leary’s best-selling book Flatshare is coming to TV screens!
British author Beth O’Leary took to Instagram earlier this year to share the exciting news that her best-selling 2019 novel would soon become a six-part rom-com series.
“I have been absolutely bursting with excitement about this for a very long time and I cannot tell you how good it feels to finally be able to share the news with you all so that you can get excited with me” she shared with her followers.
It’s not surprising the widely-loved book, which has been hailed a “Sleepless In Seattle for the 21st century” has been picked up for a screen-adaption. The book, which was one of the first to go viral on ‘Book-tok’ has everything you need for a perfect rom-com – complex characters, slow-burning chemistry, a picture-perfect London backdrop and loveable side characters.
Details are still sparse on the TV adaption, but here is everything we know so far!
What is Flatshare about?
It’s safe to say we expect the TV adaption to closely follow the main story arc of the book – which is a modern-day take on Ephron’s classic You’ve Got Mail.
Tiffy Moore and Leon Twomey have a unique living situation, to say the least. Whilst Tiffy is at work, Leon occupies the one-bed flat. Tiffy has the flat all to herself in the evenings – with Leon nowhere to be found.
Although their friends think they are crazy, the unusual living situation works for the two twenty-somethings who can’t afford London’s rental prices.
The real kicker? Tiffy and Leon have never met! Communicating only through post notes to each other in the flat they share.
We don’t want to give too much away – but the book is a heart warming and wholesome story that is a true slow-burning romance.
Behind the romance, Flatshare also delves into the character’s backstories, dealing with a number of mature themes including toxic ex-partners and the incarceration of family members.

Who is starring in Flatshare?
Casting the romantic leads in a book-to-TV adaption is always tricky – readers often have the ‘perfect’ idea of what the characters will look like and can be disappointed if it doesn’t translate well on screen.
Luckily, news of the two leads of Flatshare has been met with a mostly positive response from die-hard fans of the book.
Jessica Brown Findlay, who has starred in Downton Abbey, The Riot Club and Munich: the Edge of War will be stepping into the role of Tiffany.
Anthony Welsh, who is best known for his work in The Great and Fleabag has been cast as Leon.
The Witcher’s Bart Edwards will be appearing as Tiffany’s ex-boyfriend, Justin, and Shaq B Grant, Shaniqua Okwok and Jonah Hauer-King are also joining the ensemble.
Where can you watch Flatshare?
Flatshare will be available on Paramount+, one of 50 new projects the streaming platform would be producing worldwide in 2022.
When will Flatshare be available to stream?
When news of the adaption first broke, no release date was announced, however fans expected to see the show released before the end of the year.
When sharing images from the project on Instagram, Beth O’Leary explained that “Flatshare is coming to Paramount+ later this year – exact dating coming soon.”
Now, we know that Flatshare will be available to stream on Paramount+ on Thursday, 1st December – so start watching!
