When Woolworths declared they would be banning plastic bags in a bid to help the environment – shoppers were worried that they would have to bring their own containers when buying meat, fish and poultry – but now the retail giant has shut down the rumours.
While there were reports suggesting the move for the retail giant, they have since issued a statement ensuring this is not a step that will be taken by them at this stage.
“This is not something we offer due to food safety and operational reasons, but we are always looking for new ways to help customers reduce plastic consumption,” the statement read.

According to Seven News that Woolies maintains, it would be hazardous to allow unsterilised containers into raw food areas of the supermarket.
This suggestion only came about after customers complained about the amount of plastic packaging Woolworths uses in this day and age – despite the new single-use plastic bag ban of course.
