Meghan Markle and I have so much in common.
We’re both incredibly successful and attractive, and the two of us are putting the finishing touches on imminent glamorous weddings to the men of our dreams.
And, much like the princess-to-be, I wouldn’t invite someone like her sister Samantha to my happy day either.
Meghan’s estranged sibling has been airing the Markle clan’s dirty laundry on social media and in the press since news of her engagement to Prince Harry broke.
It’s been transparently self-serving, opportunistic and tacky.
But she really upped the ante overnight when she took to Twitter to attack the Suits star for not inviting her and other members of the family to the wedding at Windsor Castle next month.
Samantha’s argument is that if the couple can invite special members of the public, they should also include people from Meghan’s past – even if they’re not close anymore.
My partner and I have been incredibly diligent about making sure those in attendance at our wedding next week are people we want there.
No exceptions. You don’t get a seat at the most special day of my life just because we share some genes, especially if you’re a classless piece of work.
“Out of respect and humanitarianism, the Markles should be invited if 2,000 complete strangers are,” Samantha tweeted.
Those complete strangers are volunteers, veterans, survivors of the London terror attacks and other local heroes of note.
I’d rather have nice people I don’t know from a bar of soap than vultures who want to trade on my joy for their own satisfaction and 15 minutes of attention.
Those who haven’t received invitations might be better placed to spend time reflecting on why, instead of lashing out in a very public and graceless fashion.
Family is important, but it’s a team effort. If you’re not being granted “humanitarianism”, perhaps you don’t deserve it.
