Ever since season one dropped in 2020, fans have been obsessed with Outer Banks and it’s easy to see why.
With teen drama, summer vibes and a healthy dose of treasure hunting, the show has delivered a thrilling three seasons and offered fans the perfect escape to the Outer Banks Islands and the action-packed adventures of a close-knit friend group led by the notorious John B.
Missing fathers, Pogues, Kooks, love triangles and mystery, the show has kept audiences on the edge of their seats following a cliffhanger ending – but fear not, we have everything you need to know about Outer Banks Season Four.
Is Outer Banks season 4 cancelled?
The short answer is no – the hit Netflix teen drama has not been cancelled. But it’s a fair question to ask since a number of fan-favourite shows have been cancelled or delayed in recent months following the long SAG-AFTRA Strikes.
On February 18, 2023, it was announced that the show would continue for a fourth season – and there has been no news since about cancellation, so it’s safe to say the new season is still underway. But season five? We’ll have to wait a bit longer to find out…
Is Outer Banks season 4 being filmed?
Chase Stokes, the actor behind Outer Banks’ lead John B delighted fans in November 2023 when he revealed he was back on set.
“Alright wake up John B let’s go ole pal,’ the actor captioned a set of pictures of himself on the beach.
Just days later he took to Instagram to ask fans to respect the filming process, pleading to those taking photos of the crew on set to avoid leaking spoilers.
“We are about to embark on our journey and I feel like I shouldn’t have to say this, but please for the love of God don’t post spoilers,” he explained in an Instagram Story video. “I love the fact that everybody likes to show up and take pictures and videos, but if you feel like it’s something you probably shouldn’t post, don’t do it.”
“We really appreciate you showing up and continuing to love the show like it’s your own, but let’s just try our best this year to not post things that reveal plot and ruin the experience for others around the world,” he added.
What will Outer Banks Season 4 be about?
Warning Spoilers. To jog your memory, season three ended with the group of friends finally finding el Dorado and the accompanying gold and treasures. During the last episode, the storyline jumped 18 months into the future, revealing how the characters were now living their everyday lives with the mystery and action well behind them.
Kirra was once again on good terms with her parents and helping baby turtles, JJ had bought a charter boat, Pope was preparing to leave for college and was still dating Cleo and both John B and Sarah were running a successful surf shop together.
The end…or so we thought. During the final moments of the season, an elderly man approaches the group and asks them to look at some documents he has that belong to the legendary pirate Blackbeard. Immediately intrigued by the possibility of finding Blackbeard’s treasure the episode ends and perfectly sets up season four.
In February 2023, creator Josh Pate shared with Netflix some insight on what fans can expect in the upcoming season and why they felt the time jump was necessary.
“We felt like we needed to migrate them out of school. We think about the first three [seasons] as a trilogy and then we’re starting over on [another sort of] trilogy now,” they shared. “We just needed to clear the decks. We’re going to have new villains, a new treasure hunt, a new life situation.”
“Things will be slowing down in season 4 and you will see a lot more of the Pogues in the future,” Chase himself teased the following June. It’s going to be more like season 1 because it won’t be as hectic as the last two seasons and there will be a lot of reflecting about what happened in [past seasons].”
Is Outer Banks filmed in Australia?
Many fans suspected the beautiful scenery and beaches of the Outer Banks were filmed in Australia but the show is primarily filmed around Charleston, South Carolina.

Outer Banks season 4 release date
Almost a year and a half after season three premiered, it has finally been confirmed that the Pogues are returning to our screens *very* soon.
It has been announced that season four is set to premiere in fall 2024 – and the best part? It’s the biggest season yet!
Season four will be split into two five-episode parts, with Part 1 dropping Oct. 10 and Part 2 dropping Nov. 7 on Netflix.
