Perrie Edwards has confirmed that Zayn Malik broke up with her with a simple text message.
The 23-year-old pop star described the split to be the ‘worst time’ of her life as discussed the heartbreak for the first time in her band’s candid new book Our World, according to The Sun.
In a leaked excerpt from the book, which has been posted online by a Little Mix fan, she writes: “It was horrible, the worst time in my life. A four-year relationship, two-year engagement ended by a simple text message. Just like that.”
“Even though things in my career were going really well, it was incredibly difficult for me.”
In an interview with The Fader magazine, the former One Direction singer, 23, spoke about his ex fiancé: “If you could word it exactly this way, I’d be very appreciative. I have more respect for Perrie than to end anything over text message.
“I love her a lot, and I always will, and I would never end our relationship over four years like that.
“She knows that, I know that, and the public should know that as well. I don’t want to explain why or what I did, I just want the public to know I didn’t do that.”
The leaked passage comes just after the band’s appearance on the UK version of X Factor — where they performed their new track Shout Out To My Ex.
