The rapper's manager told TMZ that Coolio went to the bathroom and "when he didn't come after a while" they discovered him on the floor.
Paramedics on the scene allegedly believe he suffered cardiac arrest.
Coolio rose to fame in the mid-90s after his song Gangsta's Paradise was featured in the Michelle Pfeiffer movie Dangerous Minds.
In 1996 he won a Grammy for Best Rap Solo Performance and an MTV Video Music Award for Best Video.
Gangsta's Paradise became a number one hit worldwide, staying in the Australian top spot for 14 weeks.
Coolio also appeared in a number of films including Batman & Robin, Judgement Day and The Big Help.
The father of ten also released two reality TV show series titled Cookin With Coolio and Coolio's Rules.
