“Most of the girls knew Elly had history with Matt and it caused a lot of tension in the house,” the insider dished.
After the ladies caught on, the source claimed they confronted the 24-year-old about her history with Matt, however, she was adamant the rumours weren't true.
“They eventually confronted her about it, and she denied the rumours, but everyone knew it had happened and started to despise her for having an unfair advantage. The whole thing really upset her.”
The news comes days after another insider close to the 32-year-old claimed he's is still in love with his ex-girlfriend. According to a New Idea source, before appearing on the show, Matt fell for a Swedish professor he met while studying in Europe. The then-couple— who kept their romance a secret— is said to have often met late at night in the Lund University Observatory.
“Matt had a steamy fling with his tutor while he was doing his Master’s in Sweden,” the well-placed insider dished. “It started out as a bit of fun but before it was time to leave he’d developed genuine and deep feelings for her. Obviously, Matt and his mystery lady had astrophysics in common and were at the same level intellectually."
Since appearing on this popular dating franchise, Matt has gone to great lengths to cover up his shocking past from this year's Bachelorettes, as the insider claims he's worried his sneaky fling with the teacher will shatter his "good boy" image.
“He thinks it’s going to change the public perception of him. There is so much pressure to be this great guy and he doesn’t want to disappoint anyone.”
While their fling is over and Matt has found The One, the insider says he can’t shake the feelings from the romance... and they'd still be together if the circumstances were different!
“She is on his mind a lot. This whole process of finding love on TV has really brought back those emotions and it’s made him feel torn about some of the decisions he has made.
“He had to come back to Australia and she had her whole life over there," the source continued. "Of course, they talked about the what-ifs – but there was so much stacked against them. Applying for The Bachelor was a distraction, really.”
