Sara Connor's jail sentence has been increased
Sara Connor’s jail sentence has been increased to five years for her involvement of the death of a local police officer.
The High Court in Bali reached the decision the mother-of-two should spend an extra year in prison as judges thought her initial four-year sentence for the death of Wayan Sudarsa was ‘too light’.
Three judges criticised Connor for not helping Sudarsa after he had been bashed by her boyfriend David Taylor on Kuta Beach in August 2016.
"The defendant left behind the victim and did not make any effort to help the victim even though she knew the victim was still laying facing down," Judge Sudharmawatiningsih said.
"The defendant has also injured Indonesia's tourism image, especially Bali's tourism image."
Taylor was sentenced to six years in prison after he admitted to killing Sudarsa. He claimed he was acting out in self defence.
