Despite what looks to be a bit of a tough time for Locky, we go on to see the star admit he's hoping the experience will shape him into a better person and a "better husband" to his partner Irena Srbinovska.
While Locky and Irena have been together for almost two years now, they're not yet married. So they copped plenty of prying questions when the trailer was released.
"We get it all the time, but the thing is Locky calls me wifey or Mrs. Gilbert already so that's where that came from," Irena tells WHO. "He thinks boyfriend just sounds so teenagery. All of a sudden everyone was like, did you get married? Guys, no, believe me if he was to propose I'd be letting the world know."
Irena also reveals she was on hand to help Locky train for SAS: Australia, though she admits it was tough to watch him go through it.
"We got back from travelling and then he had one month to prepare," Irena says. "For that whole month he was training seven days a week, three hours a day. It was gruelling. I used to go to his outdoor training sessions with him at like 5am at the beach.
"It was tough watching him go through that and all I wanted to do was be like 'you've got this babe' and he's like, 'no, treat me like you're one of the DS and don't be nice.' He was just trying to get in that mindset, and he worked his butt off," she tells us.
"I've never seen anyone train like that, it was hard to watch. He’d be in the water holding a tyre above his head with waves just hitting him and I’m like 'oh my gosh he's going to drown' and his trainer was just like 'nope, leave him'. And Locky said, had he not done that training with Alex, he doesn’t think he would have been okay on SAS. He thinks his training was the ideal preparation so it was all worth it in the end."
Irena also asked Locky which series was toughest out of his two seasons of Survivor, The Bachelor and SAS.
"He said it's weird because they're so different. Survivor is hard because of the lack of food and the scheming and mind games, The Bachelor was hard emotionally, and SAS was just hard physically," Irena tells.
But watching him go through SAS was enough for Irena, who says "oh god no" when we ask if she'll be following in Locky's footsteps. For his part, the former Survivor star seems ready to show off the results of his hard work.
"I am always looking to push myself to the limit, physically, mentally and emotionally," Locky wrote on Instagram ahead of the launch. "SAS: Australia did that and more but do I crack or do I make it to the end?"
SAS: Australia premieres Monday, February 21, 7:30pm on Channel Seven and 7Plus.
