Selena and The Weeknd first met when they both performed at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in 2015. The Weeknd was dating Bella at the time, but Selena told a radio show that she fell for him instantly.

The Weeknd's ex Bella Hadid unfollowed Selena on Instagram the day after the initial kissing photos were released, while The Weeknd and Selena waited until March to unfollow Bella.
In February 2017, Baby singer Justin Bieber, Selena's ex, made a number of jibes at the pair, including that she was using The Weeknd for publicity. He also called The Weeknd's music "whack" and trolled him on Instagram.
The Weeknd responded to Justin with a song in collaboration with rapper Nav, called Some Way. Fans believe the following lyrics are about Justin and some claim that Selena even helped The Weeknd write them.
I think your girl, think your girl, fell in love with me
She say my f–k and my tongue game a remedy
Oh yeah, yeah, I just hit a lick and I know you feelin' some way
(nah, nah nah nah, nah nah nah)
I just took that chick, and I know you feelin' some way, oh yeah
She just want a n–a like me, you feelin' some way, way, way, yeah
She just want a n–a like me, I play no games
In April, the pair sent fans into overdrive when they attended Coachella together and made their relationship Instagram official when Selena posted a selfie of them together on April 15.
On May 1, the handsome duo made their red carpet debut at the 2017 Met Gala, just one year after The Weeknd attended the 2016 Met Gala with ex Bella. The pair turned on the PDA for photographers on the famous steps.
E! reported that Selena was overheard whispering "I love you" in The Weeknd's ear.
They headed up the steps and into the ball just before, Bella, her mother, Yolanda, and brother, Anwar, arrived.
Speaking in August in her September interview with InStyle, Selena opened up about The Weeknd and how happy he made her.
"I really am [happy with him]. It's great," she said. "[But] I don't depend on one area of my life to make me happy. It's really important for me to love and nourish my friends and family and to make sure that I never get influenced by a guy. I've wanted to be in a strong headspace for years, and I really wasn't. Before, I was so young and easily influenced, and I'd feel insecure. You want someone to add to your life, not to complete you, if that makes sense. I'm lucky because he's more of a best friend than anything else."
On September 14, Selena, who has lupus, announced that she had a kidney transplant some time during the weeks previous. Her donor was actress and friend Francia Raisa.
A source told People that The Weeknd rearranged his tour dates so he could be with his girlfriend.
“It was a super serious operation,” the source said, “and all her friends were worried.”
The two were seen on their final public date together on October 12th at Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights.
Shortly after that The Weeknd went back on tour, and Selena started hanging out with Justin Bieber again after he reached out to reconnect when he found out about her kidney transplant.
The week before The Weeknd and Selena announced their split, Selena and Justin were pictured having breakfast, going to church, and spending the night at each other's houses. In the weeks, Selena and Justin get back together again until at least March 2018.
