Selena Gomez’s emotional speech at the American Music Awards 2016
Selena Gomez has been keeping a low profile since her August 30th announcement about needing to take a break from the spotlight.
The singer, 23, took home the gong for Female Pop/Rock Artist of the year.
While she appeared to fighting back tears the pop star started by saying, "In 2014 this stage was actually authentically 100% honest with you. I think it’s safe to say that most of you know a lot of my life whether I liked it or not and I had to stop. Cause I had everything, and I was absolutely broken. And I kept it all together enough until where I could never let you down but I kept it too much together to where I let myself down."
After the singer touched on her mental health illness, she addressed fans by admitting, “I don’t want to see your bodies on Instagram, I wanna see what’s in here” she said as she gestured to her heart.
"I’m not trying to get validation, nor do I need it anymore. All I can say from the bottom of my heart is that I am so grateful that I have the opportunity to be able to share what I love every single day with the people that I love.
The Good For You singer completed her speech by thanking fans, "And I have to say thank you so damn much to My fans ... because you're so damn loyal and I don't know what I did to deserve you” but if you are broken – you do not have to stay broken and if that’s anything whether you respect me or not that’s one thing you should know about me, cause I care about people – thank you so much for this – this is for you!”
