What is Succession?
Succession tells the story of the Roy family, who own and operate one of the world’s biggest media conglomerates, Waystar.
Patriarch Logan Roy (Brian Cox), is father to Kendall, Roman, Siobhan and Connor, who are all privileged and awful to some degree, and lay some kind of claim to their father’s company and fortune, especially given his declining health.
Although this seems a pretty serious storyline, Succession has been heralded by many fans and critics as "hilarious" – it’s actually a satire at its core and has been described as “spiritually, far more comedy than drama.”
Succession’s cult following...
The first season of Succession was a bit of a slow burn, but by the end of its 10-week run in 2018, it was the show on everyone’s lips.
At face-value, there seems to be little to like about it. The characters flout both morality and the literal law in pursuit of power, and none of them are particularly likeable, so it’s hard to pinpoint what people like about Succession until you’ve seen it for yourself.
Critics have pointed out niche aspects of the show that made them love it so much, such as its "cruelty", "operatic profanity", and the way it was shot on film, despite centring on a wealthy family.
In a review for The Guardian, Rhik Samadder wrote that “it’s a show about how one family’s trauma can traumatise the world.”
He also praised the realism of the show, pointing out how the cast worked with wealth consultants, who aided them in acting wealthy in order to sell the real nature of the Roy family as one that is disgustingly rich.
What can I expect from season three?
With a criminal cover-up exposed at Waystar at the end of the last season, the Roy family headed off to the Mediterranean to discuss who would be taking the fall. They decide on the sycophantic Kendall, who is desperate to inherit the company.
However, after hearing from Logan that he probably wouldn’t have been chosen to run Waystar, he throws Logan under the bus, blaming his father for the criminal activity at a press conference.
Logan’s ensuing enigmatic – and maniacal – grin, left audiences desperate to see what would come next.

Will there be another season?
It seems like it! Another two seasons of Succession are expected to go ahead, with writer George Pritchett saying that there is “an end in sight” along with that time frame. So, this new season is not the end.
