The founders of Ultra Violette asserted, "SPF is the foundation of any good skincare routine."
"If you’re not protecting your face from the ultimate skin enemy - the sun - daily, then there’s really no point in 'tox/laser/filler/ retinols/chemical exfoliant/cosmeceuticals," they continued.
While we often hear about the damaging nature of the sun's UV rays, confusion still exists about what they do. When it comes to the skin, Matthews and Jefferd shared, "UVB rays are what causes sunburn and this is what the UV index is measured against."
"The UV index doesn’t cover UVA rays (which are present all-year round) and these are the most damaging in terms of ageing."
The damage they speak of? Exposure to UVA rays can lead to "pigmentation, volume loss, wrinkles, fine lines - all the fun stuff!!"
So... even when it looks or feels like it's not sunny, our good old friend UVA will be there to humble us.
When it comes to the actual application of said skin protectant, previously, SPF products have had a bad rep for their uncomfortable finish. Given the greater conversation surrounding the importance of sun protection, however, brands have become more advanced with their formulations. Ergo, no, you won't be walking around with a white cast à la Mark Zuckerberg.
Ultra Violette, in particular, have pioneered the concept of 'SKINSCREENS™'. The skincare/sunscreen hybrid features a 'wardrobe' of products for every skin type.
"We needed to cater for people wanting anything from a radiant to a matt finish, and incorporated products that worked for various skin sensitivities," the brand founders shared.

As for wearing your product throughout the day, talks of reapplication may have appeared in conversation or on your social feed. But, is it legit?
The Ultra Violette girls assert, "One SPF application doesn’t last all day, you should really be reapplying every 2-3 hours to ensure you have the right level of protection all day."
While the effort of reapplication deters most sunscreen wearers, there is a simple (and easy) solution.
