Whilst accepting the award for Video of the Year, Taylor broke the news that she would be releasing her 10th album - her first new release since 2020.
The award was her third win of the night for the 10-minute version of All Too Well, taking to the stage to make the exciting admission that the upcoming album was a lot closer than fans thought.
“I know with every second of this moment that we wouldn’t have been able to make this short film if it weren’t for you, the fans,” she explained to the crowd.
“Because I wouldn’t be able to re-record my albums if it weren’t for you. You embolden me to do that. I had sort of made up my mind that if you were going to be this generous and give us this, I thought it might be a fun moment to tell you that my brand new album comes out October 21. And I will tell you more at midnight.”

Taylor took to Instagram after the award show to reveal more details about the album.
"Midnights, the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life, will be out October 21. Meet me at midnight," she captioned a picture of the album cover.
She also posted a second photo with more details on the album, describing it as "a collection of music written in the middle of the night, a journey through terrors and sweet dreams."

Whilst it has been almost three years since her last album, Taylor has been busy re-recording ‘Taylor's Versions’ of original songs and recently released Carolina for the soundtrack of Where the Crawdads Sing.
It was a busy night for the music star, who broke the record for the most VMAs Video of the Year awards with three wins.
She previously had taken out the award with Bad Blood in 2015 and You Need to Calm Down in 2019.
Previously, Taylor was tied with three other artists for the record of most Video of the Year wins, with Beyoncé, Rihanna and Eminem also taking home two awards.

This year, Taylor also took home the Best Longform video award and Best Direction award, continuing the winning streak for All Too Well.
The 10-minute song and video, starring Stranger Things star Sadie Sink and Teen Wolf’s Dylan O'Brien may also be winning awards at the 2023 Acadamy Awards, as it is eligible to win an Oscar in the best live-action short category.
