WHO: How would you describe your experience when it came to dating Locky online?
Irena: I actually think it strengthened our connection. It was obvious to Locky and I from the beginning that we had incredible chemistry but when your time together is so limited, it’s hard to build on that. Lockdown gave us that time to get to know each other on a much deeper level.
So as hard as it was leaving the mansion, I’m so grateful I got that extra time to get to know Locky.
How would you describe the difference between dating the Bachelor online and in person?
It’s strange for sure. In person, I feel connected to Locky physically and already felt so comfortable around him.
But online during lockdown our conversations showed me a different side to him, which helped me bring my walls down. I opened up to him even more.
How did you feel about the escalating coronavirus pandemic before on-site filming was suspended?
I felt so guilty about being away from work while the nation was going through a pandemic. When I came back to Melbourne after we had to leave the mansion and I went back to work, the first day felt amazing; I was finally able to do my part.
Being a nurse is a huge part of my life. It’s my way of giving back to the community and helps me feel fulfilled. I just didn’t know how bad the situation was going to be until I walked through the hospital doors.
Quite the contrast to life in the mansion?
Yes, it’s a bit different to go from glam gowns and heels to scrubs and masks but it’s my way to contribute.
I could still talk to Locky at that time, so we could continue to connect. But because it was online, it was just on a totally different level.
The Bachelor continues on Wednesday and Thursday nights at 7.30pm on Ten.
