Speaking to the ABC today, Noosa Mayor Tony Wellington made it clear that he and the other local pollies were unimpressed with not only Jess' gifting Angie the key to the city, but also for blatantly lying on camera.
Oh and a super-gross comment about "don't mind me if I get some wandering fingers" during a group date.
Yuck.
The 37-year-old's appearance on the show "will be referred to the Office of the Independent Assessor for an alleged breach of the Councillor's Code of Conduct", the mayor told the ABC, adding that Jess' behaviour on the show isn't at all representative of Noosa council or community's values.
(Which is good to know because, honestly, we were considering booking a holiday up that way and 'wandering fingers' aren't part of our value system either.)
Mr Mayor Of Noosa went on to say that Jess hadn't sought permission before going on the show (Jess says it was his annual leave to do with whatever he pleased), and that he kiiind of maybe exaggerated about just how big a deal he is around town.
"It was made very clear on the show, and indeed Councillor Glasgow mentioned, the fact that he worked as a councillor on the Noosa council and there was also some confusion about what his role was.
"He suggested he was second to the Mayor — in fact the Deputy Mayor is second to the Mayor.
"Yes, unfortunately he has conflated his role as a councillor with his appearance on this show."
After he swore that he definitely did notsay what we all just watched him say, all hell broke loose as the politician blamed Jamie Doran the puppy-bringing firefighter for letting slip.
"Jamie, why did you tell Angiethat I was given a roseand I wouldn't... I'd say no,I'd give it back to her?" Jess accused the 39-year-old.
"I never said that... Guys, I've had two minutes with Angie all night. Why the hell would I talk about another dude?"
Jamie was so devastated by the diss he was moved to tears.
"I'm the most genuine guy in here, and for someoneto come after me like that, that's low," he explained.
"When people don't trust me,I feel worthless. It's brought outthis negative energy in methat wasn't even in me... I feel like crying right now.And I did nothing wrong.I put a lot of effort intothis sort of process, just for someoneto just come and.....just do that to meand blindsided me.I just got blindsided. You know?"
We know, Jamie. We know.
"I run into burning buildingsfor a living, and it doesn't affect me.And then someone triesto manipulate my emotionslike that, and...I don't know. It's just hard.I'm just pretty upset.I don't even knowhow to come back from this, eh?"
