“When we were starting out in Destiny’s Child, high-end labels didn’t really want to dress four black country curvy girls,” shared the singer. “And we couldn’t afford designer dresses and couture.”
Hunting for clothes for the band, her mother, she said, “was rejected from every showroom in New York. But like my grandmother, she used her talent and creativity to give her children their dreams.”
Tina didn’t just help source showgirl looks. She also played a role when her Grammy-winning daughter married fellow singer Jay Z in April 2008.
“My mother actually designed my wedding dress, my prom dress, my first CFDA Awards dress, my first Grammy dress,” said Beyonce. “This to me is the true power and potential of fashion.”
Added the mother-of-one, fashion is "a tool for finding your own identity, expression, and strength. It transcends style and is a time capsule of all of our greatest milestones.”
Many other celebrities turned heads at the CFDAs, which according to the council, celebrates “outstanding contributions made to American fashion by individuals from all areas of the industry and related arts”.
