But fear not, because that time is nearly over and a plethora of new shows are set to hit our screens soon. Here is our guide to the best new shows everyone will be talking about in 2017!
1) HOGES: THE PAUL HOGAN STORY

Drama coming to the ABC on Feb.9

Perennial favourite Claudia Karvan is at her most likeable as Josephine Newton, a barrister who gave up her gown to become a mum but has been forced to return to work.

Over the past couple of years, television has been saturated by flawed and dark characters. But Karvan’s Josephine is a breath of optimistic fresh air. And, because this show will make you smile!
3) THIS IS US
Drama coming to Channel 10 on Feb, 8.
WHAT’S IT ABOUT?
The US drama follows the lives of a trio of 36-year-olds (played by Sterling K.Brown, Justin Hartley and Chrissy Metz) who are all born on the same day. Says actor Milo Ventimiglia, “it’s a show that will definitely break your heart, but also kind of reach through and give it a hug at the same time.”
WHY YOU’LL BE WATCHING?
So you can decide for yourself if this show is worth all the awards and buzz it’s created in the States. And, because, it marks a triumphant return to the screen for Mandy Moore.
4) BRIDE AND PREJUDICE: THE FORBIDDEN WEDDINGS
Reality/Documentary Series coming to Channel Seven on Jan, 30.

This confronting series shows how five couples cope (or don’t!) when their loved ones are opposed to their upcoming nuptials because of differing opinions on race, sexual orientation, religion and, well, for no real reason at all.

Family drama is the common thread that binds us all, so expect this one to be a next-day talking point.
5) THE REAL HOUSEWIVES OF SYDNEY
Reality series coming soon to Arena on Feb, 26.

The sauv blanc-soaked franchise expands to the Harbour City after three dramatic seasons in Melbourne and follows the glamourous lives and, at times, unglamourous behaviour of politico wife Lisa Oldfield, 90s pop-diva Melissa Tkautz, ex-model Krissy Marsh, former Miss Australia Nicole O’Neil and beauty brand ambassador Victoria Rees.
