“We all started out with the same level playing field. But what happens is when you treat people somewhat disrespectfully, when you snap at them, when you tell them to ‘eff off’, you put people off and they maybe don’t have as much patience for you,” Eliza says of the situation.
“But when you’re kind to people, you get kindness in return. So, what they tried to say was that we were treated differently. But no, we were just treated the same way that we treated other people.”
Being renovation rookies also meant Eliza and Liberty weren’t afraid to put their hands up. “We asked questions because we knew nothing. So if we wanted something or we didn’t understand something, we would go immediately and ask and we got an answer. Or if we wanted help with something we would ask, and, occasionally, they would help us,” Eliza shares.
“Everyone else would get the same help and the same answers if they asked those questions – they chose not to.”
The accusations certainly appear to have ground the girls’ gears, with Liberty telling WHO that they “could not be more offended” by the digs.
“We always want to do the right thing, and we have really good morals and ethics,” she explains. “So when someone accuses us of cheating or when people question our integrity, that offends us more than anything … particularly when the people that are accusing you of that perhaps don’t have such good respect levels and kindness towards other people.”
And while the girls admit they’re “far from perfect” – with sleep deprivation understandably causing many a meltdown – Liberty admits they are proud of how they’ve presented themselves thus far.
“We wanted to go into the show and be who we were in everyday life, which is kind and respectful, have great relationships, work really hard, never give up and that’s exactly what we did,” she adds.
