A production insider told the outlet that filming would be paused “as a mark of respect” on September 8 and again on the day of the late Queen’s funeral, September 19.
Now production is back up and running according to reports, with lead actress Elizabeth Debicki said to be filming scenes based on Princess Diana’s final days.
The Australian actress has reportedly been spotted filming on of Diana’s final public appearances, a visit to the Bosnian capital of Sarajevo.
Season six has largely been filmed in Barcelona, where Elizabeth was previously photographed in costumes reminiscent of some of Diana’s most iconic outfits.
It’s understood The Crown will tackle the difficult topic of the Princess of Wales’ tragic death in 1997, but now fans are wondering if the Queen’s death will also be acknowledged in season six.
Though the timeline won’t allow for the show to depict her passing, Twitter users speculated that one or more episodes may be dedicated to her memory.
It’s understood showrunners considered the likelihood of the Queen dying during The Crown’s run as early as 2016, when it first became a hit.

Producer Stephen Daldry told Deadline at the time: "None of us know when that time will come but it would be right and proper to show respect to the Queen.
“It would be a simple tribute and a mark of respect. She's a global figure and it's what we should do.”
The Crown has been nominated for several Emmys for its dramatized depiction of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign, including the many stories and scandals of her immediate royal family.
