The Mummy disappoints at the box office
Tom Cruise has reportedly been left devastated, after The Mummy - the lead film in movie studio Universal’s new multi-million dollar franchise – disappointed at the box office.
The star has been travelling the world as part of the film's publicity tour – including a whirlwind visit to Australia, where he shared the red carpet with co-star Russell Crowe.
Reportedly costing around A$450 million including marketing expenses, The Mummy has been trounced by Wonder Woman, which has been out for weeks.
The Mummy took $42 million at the US box office, while Wonder Woman took $72 million.
While things are looking better for Cruise at the global box office – the flick has taken $188 million.
The movie was meant to be the opening film in a series of Dark Universe films, which may now be under question or headed for a major rethink.
