Jessica auditioned with a high-energy rendition of Love Don’t Cost a Thing by Jennifer Lopez, which included some dancing too.
Rita came in with a hard pitch, but seemed defeated when Jess Mauboy revealed their existing relationship.
“Jess and I go way back, we used to perform together, and we’ve been friends ever since,” Jess explained.
“It’s so cool to just watch someone grow, and I’m so proud of you for just giving it a go,” she told Jessica.
However, Jessica elected Rita as her coach.
“For this opportunity I’m going to go with Rita … Jess I love you so much, you know that I love you so much,” she told Jess while they all laughed.
So, who is Jessica Stokes?
A vocalist and dancer from way back, Jessica is also the founder of Soul Collective Music, which offers live pop, soul and funk performers for live events.
She is also a mentor to other singers at Vocal Development, and Evolution Pre-Professional, making her one seriously qualified singer in terms of experience.
The Brisbane local is also a mum to Dynamite Xavier Stark, her son.
Jessica’s Instagram shows her to be quite the all-rounder, with videos of her singing, snaps of her performances, and a lot of happy pictures of herself with Dynamite and her partner, a DJ who goes by TENZIN.
She posted about her audition experience, writing “Floating on cloud 9 after tonights blind audition… still can’t believe I’m on #teamrita ⚡️⚡️⚡️”
“So much love and support from family and friends.. such an amazing feeling and so much love to go around. THANK YOU 🙏🏽 ” she penned.
We can’t wait to see more of Jessica after the blinds!
