You, Beyoncé and Michelle Williams got the band back together for Coachella 2018. Do you catch up much with your Destiny’s Child ladies these days?
We see each other all the time! We don’t just see each other on-stage when we perform. Me, Michelle and Bey are a tight bunch. The first time my son, Titan, saw us together on-stage was at Coachella, so as far as he’s concerned, that’s his Aunty Mimi and Aunty Bebe. He doesn’t know about Destiny’s Child!
Is Titan musical?
He does love music. I’m amazed at how he catches melodies so quickly with certain Disney songs. He’s a special kid.
You’ve got an eye for talent! Tell us about your team on The Voice.
The talent is actually incredible. It’s so funny, because every year when we wrap up the show, I’m like, how is it going to be better? How is it going to top last year? And, it really blew my mind to come back and hear all these incredible big voices, and all these interesting and amazing stories. It’s really exciting to watch.
In the past, you and Boy George have butted heads. Can we expect to see any more of that this season?
This year it actually happens across the board. All of us were so passionate, so honest with each other, [about] how we felt. We all felt at ease, and a shift with each other.
We’re loving your new song, ‘Coffee’ – what’s it been like releasing fresh music from isolation?
It’s exciting! The coolest part is just knowing how excited I was about it. It’s the same feeling I had the very first time I released a song. It’s a good thing, because I’m still loving it! It’s been very positive. And I love that women have been feeling empowered by the song – and that’s why you make music, to empower people.
We’re really missing you here Down Under! What do you love about coming to Australia?
I love the people of Australia. They have been supportive of myself since the moment I first went there. Australians remain loyal and make you feel like you belong.
