Last night Alfie Arcuri returned to the show that made the singer famous and he treated fans to a performance of his new single If They Only Knew.
Speaking to The Daily Telegraph, the 29-year-old admitted: “I am really nervous but it is nice in a way knowing I don’t have to compete with anyone except myself,” he said.
He tells the newspaper that his new single was based on a situation he experienced during a former relationship, whereby Arcuri’s ex partner’s parents didn’t know he was gay.
“I fell in love with this guy and it was instant love,” he explained.
“We were together for a couple of years and half way through the relationship he came out. The song is almost like a diary entry for me telling his parents how innocent our love and relationship was because to them I was like the devil who turned their son gay. It wasn’t like that at all though, it was a beautiful love.”
“I never actually wrote this song to be released because it is so personal,” said Arcuri.
“Even talking about it makes me emotional.”
For those that missed the show, the singer has included a small snippet from the song on his Instagram.
Arcuri also took to Instagram to announce that he's going on an Australian tour. "Sooo my songs out... I just performed it on the voice.. OH AND IM GOING ON A TOUR! 😬😬😍😍 Tickets available now on my Facebook page@birdsbasement @leadbellynewtown," he wrote.
Arcuri won The Voice in 2016 alongside judge Delta Goodrem.
