Tina Arena may be in happy relationship with her French partner Vincent Mancini nowadays, but the Australian pop star has discussed her tumultuous marriage to former manager Ralph Carr.
Speaking on the Mia Freedman's No Filter podcast, Arena said: 'My first experience [with marriage] was disgraceful.'
“It was appallingly treated under Australian law,” she said.
“Financially, I went back to zero after 25 years of work.”
While the former couple's divorce was finalised in 1999, the singer claimed the financial strain of the drawn-out split left her with little time for the “legal concept” of tying the knot.
“The concept of marriage is a beautiful thing,” she continued.
“But I don’t have any respect for how it can be used and how the law makes so much money through people’s demises.”
