However, it was Frankie’s arrival via emergency C-section three weeks ahead of his due date that was the hardest to cope with.
“He had some breathing difficulties when he was born, so he was in the neonatal intensive care unit for a week,” says Jewel, who is also mum to daughter Grace, 11.
“That was so hard because I hardly got to cuddle him and he was bottle-fed my expressed breast milk. He also had a tongue-tie, so he had a bit of a rough start.”
Thankfully though, Frankie soon began to thrive after his arrival and Jewel and her husband were able to take him back to their Perth home. The pair had already decided on Frankie’s name before his arrival.
“I was talking to him while I was pregnant and that’s what we called him,” she says. “Then when he was born, the name just seemed to suit him. It’s got that bit of cuteness. Robert is Nathan and my father’s middle name.”
The reality star admits she’s noticed some differences to parenting newborns a decade apart. “Being a new mum at 38 is very different to having a baby at 27,” she admits.
“It’s definitely a little harder to get up at night and the recovery was a bit slower, but I’m also mentally stronger and calmer. I’m loving every minute of being a mother again. I couldn’t be happier right now.”
