LOCATED in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains in Los Angeles, the unassuming town of Monrovia is attracting tourists in droves, thanks to Netflix blockbuster, Bird Box.
The psychological thriller, staring Sandra Bullock and Sarah Paulson, is set in the Californian locale and at a seven-bedroom home on North Canyon Boulevard where Bullock’s character and her two young kids hide from a mysterious force killing everyone around them.
And while it may not be Hollywood, the quaint township has become somewhat of a tourist attraction in its own right with movie buffs flocking to the suburb to see the Bird Box house made famous onscreen.
Netflix announced this week that 45 million subscriber accounts across the world watched the thriller during its first seven days on the streaming service, a record debut for the company.
Now fans are desperate to see the house in real life, and snap Bird Box selfies blindfolded on the iconic stone staircase.
According to the LA Times, Monrovia’s homes and commercial areas have been used for years in films such as Legally Blonde, American Pie, Never Been Kissed the 1986 horror-comedy cult film, House.
Just five mintes from town, day-trippers will also find Monrovia Canyon Park, which boasts 80 acres of scenic trails including the famous Monrovia Falls hiking trail with a year-round waterfall.
