Vivienne Westwood was a revolutionary fashion designer and activist who was largely responsible for bringing modern punk and new-wave fashions into the mainstream.
She was inspired by the shock value of punk and rose to prominence in the 1970s.
In recent years, the designer's advocacy for climate change strongly influenced her designs, with Vivienne introducing a new era for the genre she was so famous for steering: the eco-punk.
“Vivienne continued to do the things she loved, up until the last moment, designing, working on her art, writing her book, and changing the world for the better," a statement by her clothing brand read.
“She led an amazing life. Her innovation and impact over the last 6 years has been immense and will continue into the future.”
A cause of death has not been disclosed.
