Why is Outer Range a sci-fi Western?
It’s an odd mix, but you’d be silly to say it hasn’t worked before, given Westworld was one of the biggest shows of the last decade.
“I grew up out West, so I have been writing about it for a very long time,” executive producer Brian Watkins said of the Wyoming setting.
“I have always wanted to tell this story about real people grappling with the unknown and the West being filled with equal parts wonder and majesty and fear.”
According to Brian, there are “clues all over these eight episodes” that give an answer to what lies beyond the mysterious void, which is first noticed by Royal when he uses it to dispose of a body, leading to a murder mystery investigation in the town.
“There’s sort of a trickle-out effect to the mysteries,” he said, and colour us curious.
Who stars in Outer Range?
Oscar-nominee Josh Brolin is helming the series as Royal, who these days is most recognisable for his role as super-villain Thanos in the Avengers series. However, he has a long and celebrated acting career behind him.
Josh is joined by celebrated actor Lili Taylor, who will play Cecilia Abbott, and Tom Pelphrey (of Ozark fame), and Lewis Pullman (Catch-22), will play his sons, Perry and Rhett.
Talented British actress Imogen Poots will star as Autumn, the out-of-towner with a connection to the void. Noah Reid, who previously played TV’s best boyfriend, Patrick on Schitt’s Creek, will join as a member of the Tillerson family – the neighbours attempting to buy the Abbott’s land out from underneath them.
