This is not Liz’s first time working with source material from Taylor Jenkins Reid. She is currently adapting Malibu Rising (which you can grab here from Booktopia), Taylor’s most-recent book, for Hulu.
The book, and we assume the series as well, follows a family of surfers connected by past traumas and overshadowed by the debauchery of their infamous father, Mick Riva.
Taylor’s next huge novel after The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo was Daisy Jones and The Six (grab it here), which is currently being adapted into a series for Amazon Prime, also with the support of Hello Sunshine.
That’s three books currently in the works as adaptations – so plenty of reading to catch up on if you’ve never had the pleasure in indulging in one of these fabulous novels.
What is The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo about?
The novel serves as a re-telling of the life of fictional Hollywood legend, Evelyn Hugo, who is very loosely based on Elizabeth Taylor, as she reaches the end of her life.
She selects journalist Monique Grant to tell her entire story to, with the promise that Monique may publish it in the event of her death.
Throughout her life story, she addresses each of her seven high-profile marriages, revealing a number of salacious secrets in the process that reveal what it was really like to be a woman in a version of Hollywood run entirely by men.
Who will star in the film?
This news is very new, and we’ve had no indications of who might be cast to play the characters.
This hasn’t stopped fans of the novel from speculating though, and Tik Tok is rife with dream cast videos that often have Ana de Armas cast as the Cuban-born Evelyn Hugo, especially given recent photos of her from the film Blonde, where she stars as Marilyn Monroe.
Eleanor Tomlinson and Emma Stone have both been floated as potentials for the role of Eveleyn’s best friend, Celia, who is described as having flaming locks of red hair.
Where can I watch The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo?
The adaptation has been confirmed for Netflix, so you can bet it will be dropping in Australia as soon as it drops in the US.
We’ll keep you updated on the details!
