Create the perfect feline flick with these foolproof tips from celebrity makeup artist Vincent Oquendo.
“I’ve always found winged eyeliner alluring, especially on icons like Marilyn Monroe. After I do it on my clients, [who include Vanessa Hudgens and Hailee Steinfeld], I can see a twinkle in their eyes. They feel sexy,” says Oquendo.
To stabilise a shaky hand, sit and plant your elbow on a table with a mirror. And be patient! It takes practise to nail a precise line.
Start with your hard side
Once you’ve achieved a shape you’re satisfied with on that eye, replicating it on your other side should be much easier.
Sketch the shape
Using a kohl pencil, begin drawing from your desired point at the outer corner of your eye towards your upper lash line.
Assess your work
Step back from the mirror so that you can see both eyes at the same time and make sure the wings are even.
Lock in the look
Trace over the kohl using either a gel or liquid eyeliner.
