Is Angie in love?
I can’t say anything but she’s very happy. And I know she’s happy, not just because she says it, I can see it. It’s good, I think we’re all going to be just as happy as her.
How do you feel about her portrayal on The Bachelorette so far?
It’s just so her. The amount of comments I have seen of people saying, “Thank you for calling that s--t out”. Even the guys getting into Jess [Glasgow]. The only thing about the creepy councillor that I was disappointed about was that it overshadowed wacky Wazza [Warwick Adams]. I’ve watched that episode three times because I just can’t get enough.
Do you appear on the show lots?
No, I don’t actually! We saw from the first episode I’m going to see a naked man but there’s not much more of me. My family keeps asking me what happens and who wins but I honestly don’t know. Even if Angie did want to tell me, I wouldn’t let her tell me because I love this show and I don’t want to ruin it.
How did you react when Angie said she was thinking about doing The Bachelorette?
I was kind of, “Don’t do it, don’t do it”. That was my initial reaction, laughing, going, “No, you wouldn’t!” I’ve always known her as an independent single woman. I didn’t think she was looking [for someone] so I never took it seriously, ever, until she said, “I’m doing it”. And I was like, “What!”. Then I immediately went with it because she’d made the decision. I said to her, “Make sure they let you be you.” And she was like, “I won’t let them not let me.” I was worried, but now I’m not.
Was the editing of her your biggest fear?
That’s it, yep. Then I realised, they don’t make the Bachelors and the Bachelorette look bad. They’re happy to let the contestants look bad but not the main ones. I think, if any of the main people do look bad, it’s certainly not [because of] editing. Like the Honeybooger [Nick Cummins]. That must have been very hard to edit someone like that to make them look really great and then they would just keep farting or burping or whatever, talking in a pretty awful way about women. That was a bad decision. I don’t think they realised how bad it was until it was already in production.
How is your love life going?
There’s a lot of single men with dogs and they’re really happy to flirt with you so I’m definitely meeting men, and there’s a lot of dog pubs here, so you actually end up having a drink before you’ve even gone on a date.
Is finding love important to you?
It is nice to have and it’s so fun. I’m happy to find someone as a companion who just wants to have a laugh, because the children thing is gone for me, like, I’m not interested. I want someone that just wants to hang out and not be too fancy. It’s not too hard to find but I’ve got such great friends and a full life. A cheeky pash isn’t bad though.
