While Zoë Foster Blake has been happily married to funnyman Hamish Blake for over four years, the author, beauty writer and skincare founder admits that in her single days, she struggled with breakups.
“In my late teens I would just do very desperate and strange things...going to their house, and dressing up and looking cute as could be to try and reignite something,” she told radio hosts Bec Judd and Monty Dimond on KISS FM’s 3pm Pick-up. “Even if I did the breaking up, I just didn't seem to get the message.”
That awkward time has inspired the Foster Blake—who is expecting a sibling to son Sonny, 2, later this year— to create Break-Up Boss, an app to help the heartbroken heal in a positive way. The app features advice, quizzes and a ‘text your ex’ function that lets users say exactly what they want to their ex, without actually sending it to them. It retails for $9.99 with 10% from every purchase donated to Safe Steps, a family violence response centre in Victoria. “I just think it's nice to have something in your phone that will just walk you calmly off the ledge,” said Foster Blake.
