Tradie Mat works as an electrician in one of the local mines. Born and bred in outback NSW, he's first and foremost a country boy.
"I've lived in Broken Hill my whole life. I like to think I'm a pretty genuine guy. I hope that that can take me a fair way in the game," he said in one of the show's first promos.
"It's a game, ya gotta remember that. If someone's coming after my back, it's kill or be killed in my book."
Will Daniel's stint on Big Brother be more successful than his former career as an AFL player?
"They figured out I wasn't very good at footy. So that's when they sacked me," the ex GC Suns and Carlton player explains in a promo.
"This is redemption for me. AFL didn't go the way I wanted it to go, but Big Brother is something that I know I can win."

Loud and tough, Angela says, "Big Brother has met his match because I don't back down. Bring it on!'
If she wins the prize money, the mum has said she'll take her family to Legoland in Japan.
Chad, 27, is an international model "by career" but says he's "a tradie by heart."
He's graced the pages of Vogue, GQ and Superdry, but insists he won't fall in love on the show.
"I think I'll be able to adapt to most personalities in the Big Brother house, and just weave my way in there," he says.
Champion gymnast Sophie is sure to bring a competitive edge to the house.
The 25-year-old Darwin local started training as a gymnast from a young age and even made the Australian Olympic team for London 2012 when she was just 18. Sadly, her dreams were shattered when she suffered a back injury that marked the end of her elite sport carer.
