Some contestants were saying you didn’t make an effort with them, is that true?
They don’t know how to be upfront with others and I think that that’s ok if they were just trying to be polite and find anything to say. I don’t think it’s true at all and I could say the same thing for them. You’ve got to kind of toughen up and say what you mean if you want to survive in this world.
Who are the contestants to watch this season?
Angela’s obviously funny so you will not be disappointed by her at all. Her, Matt, Marissa and Alan – he can absolutely keep up with his own energy, he’s going to be great on that show. Kieran’s house favourite but we’ll have to see if he can survive!
Sonia hinted that a love story is coming up this season, did you see any signs of romance?
It’s definitely football player with somebody, 100 per cent. The way he spoke about himself I was like ‘Someone’s gonna fall for his s***!’ Definitely not me!
You were in the house for two nights, what was the sleeping situation like with you all in one room?
It felt like a minute. There wasn’t a set time to sleep, it was just lights on lights off. You just had to be smart in deciding that you should take your sleep because it is mentally draining and the last thing you want is to be exhausted. I can sleep anywhere – I can sleep on the floor, I can sleep through storms, there can be 10 people in the room and I’ll pass out.
The shower situation also raised a few eyebrows. Did you cope with sharing 60 minutes of shower time with everyone?
I don’t know if they’re going to showcase the shower situation. I think I’ve learnt this because I’ve stayed in dorm houses and lived in houses with a lot of people where time is very strict and important but I think a lot of people who enjoy their half an hour showers were really struggling and were quite precious. They wanted their 30 minute beauty showers and that was not going to work!
What was the deal with the food rations?
We didn’t realise, no one told us. We just thought ‘Where’s all the food?’ and we figured out that’s all we get until there’s any more. For me it was very easy – it was all about three meals a day (if anything your food will be a breakfast and a dinner) and everyone should know how to cook, that’s a basic life skill. So I just took a look at the kitchen and thought ‘That’s dinner, that’s what breakfast is, that’s the plan and we should all decide what cuisine or a plan to make it work.’ But I think a lot of people had never cooked in their life or didn’t want to take the reins or thought if they had an opinion they’d feel responsible, I’m not sure.
There was a lack of unity, I think that’s one thing I didn’t see from anybody. At the same time we still have to work together but no one quite understood that yet.
What were you allowed to bring into the house? Was anything banned?
I think it was just the obvious which was no technology. I was fine, I’m quite a minimalist and I don’t have much s***. I probably packed the lightest! For me I was like ‘I’m just going to be lounging in a house’ so I just had leggings, sweats and shirt – I didn’t have anything else.
Do you have any regrets about how you played the game?
I’m happy with myself and how I performed. Whether that read well with the housemates, I don’t really care about what other people thought I should or shouldn’t have done. I’m happy with myself and I have to live with that so I’m good!
