Here's what the original cast of Grease is up to today

As the film celebrates its 40th anniversary! - by Diana Pearl
  • 31 Jul 2018

What have our favourite Rydell High graduates been doing since driving off into the sunset? A whole lot.

John Travolta (Danny)

grease 40 years

Travolta is still the one that Hollywood wants. He’s starred in tons of movies, including Pulp Fiction, Face/Off, Bolt and Wild Hogs. Travolta also starred in the critically acclaimed miniseries, The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, in which he played Robert Shapiro, lead defense attorney in the controversial O.J. Simpson murder trial.

Olivia Newton-John (Sandy)

grease 40 years

Forty years after Grease, Newton-John still has lots of star power. She’s best remembered for her music career, rather than film (the exception being Xanadu). She released a number of successful studio albums, the best known being Physical in 1981. She’s still as active as ever, with a Las Vegas residency in 2014 and regular tours around the globe.

Stockard Channing (Rizzo)

grease 40 years

Following her Grease days, Channing really hit her stride in the world of TV, playing First Lady Abbey Bartlet on The West Wing for seven years. She’s also a frequent player on the Broadway stage, appearing in shows like It’s Only a Playand Other Desert Cities. Most recently, she had a 10-episode arc in The Good Wife.

Jeff Conaway (Kenickie)

grease 40 years

Post-Grease, Conaway earned a part in the show Taxi and continued with music as the frontman for the band 3 1/2. In his personal life, he battled drug addiction and often spoke out about his problems with substance abuse. Sadly, Conaway died in 2011 from pneumonia with sepsis.

Didi Conn (Frenchy)

grease 40 years

Conn starred in a number of television shows after her Grease days, including The Fonz and the Happy Days Gang, Benson and Shining Time Station. And she reprised her iconic role in the less-beloved sequel, Grease 2. In 2008, she was named a national celebrity spokesperson for Autism Speaks – her son, Daniel, has autism.

Michael Tucci (Sonny)

grease 40 years

Audiences saw a lot of Tucci on screen in the late ’80s and mid ’90s with his shows Flying Blind and Diagnosis Murder. He took a long break from acting in the aughts, with no credits from 2011 to 2013, but recently came back on the scene with a role in The Heat.

Dinah Manoff (Marty)

grease 40 years

Manoff has had a long career after Grease: She snagged big roles in shows like Soap, Empty Nest and State of Grace on the small screen, and hit the Great White Way with a bang when she won a Tony Award for best performance by a featured actress in a play for I Ought to Be in Pictures.

Jamie Donnelly (Jan)

grease 40 years

After Grease, Donnelly took a break from acting for 20 years. But in 1998, she came out of retirement, and has since appeared in Cyrus, which she acted in alongside Marisa Tomei and John C. Reilly, the TV series Monk and most recently, the Johnny Depp film Black Mass. Donnelly has worked off-camera, too, as an acting coach.

Barry Pearl (Doody)

grease 40 years

Since Grease, Pearl has been a staple guest actor on countless TV shows, including Eight Is Enough, Murder, She Wrote and Beverly Hills, 90210. He’s also made a splash on-stage in shows such as The Producers and The Odd Couple.
