Alexander, 39, recently revealed what it took to bulk up as Tarzan in an interview with Mr Porter’s The Journal.

The actor revealed that in the three months prior to filming, he lifted heavy weights and consumed an insane 7000 calories a day. This is three times the amount he would normally eat. However, Alexander managed to pack on 11kg in these three months.

Once Alexander got to London to start filming he had to switch up his diet. The actor embarked “on a very strict sugar-, gluten-, wheat-, dairy- and alcohol-free diet of six smaller meals per day alongside his twice-daily training sessions”. This allowed him to chisel out the eight-pack seen in the film’s promotional photos.

One of the twice-daily training sessions was at 4.30am. Alexander felt compelled to choose his own trainer, commenting, “When you have to see the same person every morning at 4:30 a.m., it’s important you get on well with them”.

The Legend of Tarzan hits Australian cinemas on July 7.
