Hanna follows a 15-year-old girl (Esme Creed-Miles) rescued from a government facility in Romania as a baby and raised in isolation in the woods to be a kick-ass killer. (Watch the trailer below.)

Although the search for Hanna has died down with so many years living off the grid, a determined operative (Mireille Enos) springs back into action when the girl reappears on her radar.

And so the chase begins, with events playing out as a fairly faithful – at least, initially – reboot of the 2011 film starring Saoirse Ronan and Cate Blanchett.

Like so many shows, it pays to watch at least two episodes of Hanna before deciding whether to proceed because it takes that long to get a real sense of what the story is going to be – Episode 1 doesn’t get very far down the narrative path.

Created by the original film’s co-writer, David Farr, this eight-part series doesn’t feel like a reinvention, more a second attempt to connect with viewers, who didn’t flock to the cinema first time around. (On Amazon Prime Video from Fri., Mar. 29) 4 stars
