Amber Portwood and her fiancé still have their sights set on an upcoming wedding.
Earlier this month, a source close to the Teen Mom OG star and her beau Matt Baier revealed to PEOPLE that the engaged couple’s plans to wed in October were off. But according to Baier, they are still planning to tie the knot later this year — and are keeping the majority of details associated with the celebratory occasion very private.
“The wedding hasn’t been called off,” Baier exclusively tells PEOPLE. “Amber and I decided to keep the details of our wedding very, very personal and private right now.”
“Ever since we announced our wedding date, the amount of stress and opinions that came along with that just became too much. There were people out there just ruining the day for us before it even happened,” Baier explains. “We decided to formulate and stick to our plan but we don’t know if we want to share this with everyone.”
According to the source, the couple decided to table their wedding because Portwood wanted to continue to work on their relationship before walking down the aisle.
But Baier says that the wedding is “just something in our life we think is our right to keep private and that’s such an important issue to us.”
He adds: “When you live your life on TV and everyone has an opinion about it, there’s going to be somethings you just keep to yourself and that’s what we decided to do.”
Things have been a bit rocky for the couple these last couple of years. In a recent episode of Teen Mom OG, Portwood had a break down on camera while trying on wedding gowns.
“We’ve just been through a lot these past few years, [and] that has really shut me down from the wedding,” she explained to an MTV producer, adding that she doesn’t trust Baier and that her depression was caused by him.
“When you put your trust in somebody … that’s what a relationship is built on,” Portwood said on camera. “You get to a good place in life, and you can love each other and want to be with each other for the rest of your life, and still not trust each other. That’s what messes up everything.”
And in August 2016, Portwood and Baier called off their initial wedding after the pair’s relationship took a hit when Portwood found out about her fiancé’s past mistakes. Reports at the time had surfaced about Baier allegedly failing to pay child support for several secret biological children with multiple women.
